INTRODUCTION:
Recent research indicated that the cause of Osteoarthritis of knee is the interaction of medial plica on medial femoral condyle. This interaction pressure from medial plica to medical femoral condyle cause the pain, swelling of knee and limitation of motor function of knee ( Medial plica syndrome).
PURPOSE:
Previous research has point out that bee venom can inhibit inflammation and stop pain. In this study, we wish to investigate the effect of bee venom on osteoarthritis of knee.
METHOD:
A 75-year-old Chinese female suffered from morning stiffness and pain of knees for 10+ years. Her knee pain will become severe after climbing the stairs but decrease after resting.
X ray examination of knee indicated marked narrowing of joint space of both knees.
Later, she developed painful swelling of both knees and limitation of motor function of both knees.
The diagnosis of 3rd stage of Osteoarthritis of knee was made.
After receiving several years of integrated medical treatments without obvious improvement, she started Apitherapy later.
She received five treatments of bee venom puncture per week. After receiving six months of Apitherapy, she found that pain, swelling of knees(Medial Plica syndrome) were improved. Furthermore, she recovered her motor functions of lower legs.
RESULT:
The result of this study indicated that bee venom has obvious effect of treating medial plica syndrome. Bee venom can improve the chronic inflammatory change cause by the interaction of medial plica on medial femoral condyle and stop the pain and swelling of knee.
CONCLUSION:
Bee venom can inhibits the chronic inflammatory change caused by the physical and chemical destruction from the interaction from medical plica on medial femoral condyle of knee joint cavity.
Furthermore, bee venom can improve pain and swelling (Medial plica syndrome) of knees and recover the motor functions of legs.
